Web design for builders

Construction website design for builders who’d rather be on site

Most builders we talk to have the same story. The work comes in through word of mouth, the diary is full, and the website is something a mate’s nephew put together six years ago. Fair enough. But somewhere along the line, almost every job now involves someone looking you up before they pick up the phone.

That person might be a homeowner planning an extension in Shrewsbury, an architect deciding who to recommend, or a main contractor checking you out before sending a tender pack. They’re all asking the same quiet question: does this firm look like it can handle my job?

Two very different visitors

The tricky part with a construction website is that it has to work for two audiences at once. They want different things, and a good site gives both of them a clear path.

A homeowner wants to see A contractor or architect wants to see
Finished jobs that look like theirs The scale and type of projects you take on
Real photos, not stock images Accreditations, insurance and health and safety
Roughly how you work and how long things take Your trades, team size and plant
That you’re local and easy to reach The areas you cover and a named contact

You don’t need a separate site for each. You need a well-organised one, with a projects section that does the heavy lifting and a couple of pages that answer the trade questions without making a homeowner wade through them.

Your projects are your best salesperson

A good project write-up does more than any amount of “quality workmanship guaranteed” copy. Three or four photos, a few lines on what the client wanted, what you found when you opened the wall up, and how it turned out. Done properly, each one also gives Google something specific to find, like a kitchen extension in Telford or a barn conversion near Ludlow.

If you’ve got CHAS, Constructionline, TrustMark or FMB membership, show it, with a link where the scheme allows. Those badges matter far more to a commercial buyer than a clever tagline.

Good photos make all the difference here. We offer professional photography and drone work for exactly this reason, and you can see what that involves on our photo and film page.

What it costs

Our Classic Website is £30 a month including VAT, which covers up to 15 pages, the design, hosting, SSL and support. Most builders with a steady flow of projects are better suited to the Premium Website at £45 a month, because it includes our content management system and unlimited pages and images, so you can add each new job yourself from your phone. There’s no setup fee, no minimum term and the site is usually live within 14 working days. Everything is laid out on our web design packages page.

If roofing, joinery or plastering is a big part of what you do, it’s worth a look at our pages on web design for roofers, carpenters and joiners and plasterers too.

Questions builders often ask us

Should a building firm have a projects page or a gallery?

A projects page, ideally. A gallery of loose photos shows that you do nice work, but a short write-up for each job explains what was involved, where it was and what the client wanted. That context is what persuades people, and it gives search engines far more to work with.

We get most of our work from word of mouth. Do we still need a website?

Probably more than you think. Recommended customers still look you up before they ring, and so do architects and main contractors. If they find nothing, or something that looks abandoned, a warm recommendation can go cold.

Can we add new projects ourselves?

Yes, on the Premium Website. It includes our content management system, so you can add photos and a few lines about each job whenever you finish one. On the Classic package we can add them for you.

Can you take photos of our finished work?

Yes. We offer professional photography and drone photography, both listed on our price list. Drone shots are particularly good for extensions, new builds and roofs, where the whole job is hard to capture from the ground.

How long does a new construction website take?

Most sites are live within 14 working days once we have your content, photos and brief. If you have years of project photos to sort through, we can launch with your best few and add the rest afterwards.

Is there a long contract?

No. There is no setup fee and no minimum term, so you can cancel at any time. Our packages are £30 or £45 a month including VAT.
