Web design for charities

Charity website design that earns trust before it asks for anything

Most people who land on a charity’s website have one of three questions. Can I trust you? How do I help? And, if they need you, how do I get support? A good charity website answers all three within a few seconds and doesn’t make anyone hunt for the donate button.

Small charities rarely have a marketing team, so the website has to do a lot of quiet work on its own: explaining what you do, showing where the money goes and keeping volunteers, supporters and the people you help in the loop.

Trust comes first

  • Your registered charity number, shown clearly. People do look it up before they give.
  • A plain explanation of what you do and who you help, in normal English rather than funding-bid language.
  • Real photographs of your people and your work. One honest picture of a Tuesday drop-in beats ten stock images.
  • Your trustees, your annual reports or a short summary of your impact, so supporters can see you’re well run.

Make helping easy

Donations, volunteering, fundraising events and gifts in kind all deserve a clear route. If you use a donation platform you already like, we’ll link to it properly. If you want to take payments on your own site, the Premium Website handles card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and custom forms can sign up volunteers or book places at events.

Accessible to everyone you serve

Charities often support people who are older, unwell, or reading in a second language. Good contrast, readable text, clear links and proper alt text matter more here than almost anywhere. We’ve written about the basics in our plain-English guide to website accessibility.

What it costs

Our Classic Website is £30 a month including VAT: up to 15 pages, up to 50 images, hosting, SSL, a business mailbox, a contact form and unlimited phone and email support. The Premium Website is £45 a month and adds a content management system so you can edit everything yourself, unlimited pages, online payments, custom forms and members’ areas. There’s no setup fee and no minimum term, and you can compare both on our web design packages page.

Many of the charities we speak to also run shops, cafes or community spaces, so our pages on digital signage and photography and film may be useful too.

Trust up front

Questions charities often ask us

Do you offer a charity discount?

Our prices are the same for everyone and are published in full: £30 a month for the Classic Website and £45 for the Premium Website, both including VAT. There is no setup fee, so a charity can have a professional site without finding a lump sum first.

Can people donate through our website?

Yes. The Premium Website can take card payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Klarna, so you can take donations or sell event tickets directly. If you already use a donation platform, we can link to it clearly from every page instead.

Can volunteers update the website?

With the Premium Website your team can log in and edit news, events and pages themselves, with no technical knowledge needed. On the Classic Website, our team makes the changes for you whenever you ask.

Should we show our charity number on the website?

Yes. It is one of the first things a careful donor checks, and it reassures people that you are properly registered. We usually place it in the footer of every page and on the about page.

Can we have a members’ or trustees’ area?

Yes. The Premium Website includes members’ areas, so you can keep minutes, policies or volunteer rotas behind a login while the rest of the site stays public.

Is there a long contract?

No. There is no minimum term and no setup fee, so you can cancel whenever you need to.
